Problem

Consider:

Which part of the country will incur the highest health care costs per capita in the next decades? Which part of the country pays the lowest tax per capita? Which part of the country elects conservative politicians who view health care with contempt?

Is this a problem?

Working Man

Today was day three of my new job. [career?] Life is a lot different inside a huge, global corporation than in a large, public university. I can’t really speak to whether I’m enjoying the work yet, since this week consisted entirely of orientation activities, meetings, and powerpoint presentations. Tomorrow morning we leave for an intensive four week training program in Connecticut. By mid September, I should be more settled in my job and able to answer the question.

If co-workers are a good indication of the corporate environment, I’ll like it at my job. [specific place of employment intentionally omitted] Of the 50 or so people I’ve met so far, everyone is very enthusiastic and friendly, and they seem happy in their roles. Again, it’s probably too early to tell, but everything seems positive.

One tie-in to my last post: When we went over benefits with the HR staff, they strongly recommended signing up for the 401(k) plan. My supervisor put it this way: “If you’re even thinking about not singing up for 401(k), you’d better call me first!” So it seems that there is some good information getting dispersed, at least inside the company.
