Walk Score
If you’re looking for a new apartment or moving to a new city, be sure to check out www.walkscore.com. This site uses Google Maps to approximate the relative “walk score” of your neighborhood. It takes into account the distance to essentials like grocery stores, restaurants, bars, schools, etc.
Something to keep in mind especially if you’re considering buying a place. When gas hits $8 a gallon, walking is going to become very fashionable indeed.

Lake Delton, WI: 17
And that doesn’t even take into account all of the stupid tourists.

80 for me. Damn you Tad! You win again. You always do. At least I kicked Lake Delton’s ass (no surprise there).

35, not as low as I was expecting. I am dubious, however, for the following reasons:
1) Walking anywhere in my town isn’t much of an option during the summer months unless you’re doing it at night, and then you have to worry about problems other than heat.
2) A gas station was listed in the Grocery Store category. Sure, I could walk there to buy some junk food snacks or a half gallon of milk, but it’s not a grocery store.
3) The Book Store category consisted solely of an adult sexy store. Yes, I can tell you that they do in fact sell books. Sexy books, often with pictures. Some magazines, too. The majority of the store’s merchandise is not book-related. It is not a Book Store.

Romsa–I guess I’m drawn to 92-point neighborhoods?
(For the rest of you, 10 South was my old college house in Madison)
Extension idea: Bikescore.com
Much harder to implement (since Google doesn’t track things like bike lanes [yet] but a good idea nonetheless)
