I also googled the image file. And yes, I was intending to cheat but, since my brother already beat me to it, I won’t post my (the) answer. However, here is a hint: There are a large number of telemarketing companies in this area.

Haha. I wasn’t the only one who cheated I guess. I was trying very hard to find one of the famous dialect surveys (http://www4.uwm.edu/FLL/linguistics/dialect/index.html) that fit the map so it looked like I tried.

Here was my guess before I searched for the answer: this region is representative of the American voter. The winner of the presidential election wins this region with the same percent as the popular vote across the U.S.
