Israel at war (again)

My uncle sent a very informative op-ed piece from Rashid Khalidi, a professor of Arab studies at Columbia University. Seeing as U.S. politicians and the media are unabashedly pro-Israel, it’s up to you as a citizen to inform yourself:

Today, an Israeli tank fired two shells at a UN relief truck bringing food and supplies to the Gaza Strip during a 3-hour humanitarian ceasefire. The truck driver was killed immediately. The UN was forced to stop aide shipments.

War. What a great way to solve conflicts.

Aaahh, I’m relieved to see this blog updated!

I don’t know what to think about this whole Gaza situation, though…. Will it end soon? Will it escalate?

Both sides seem to think that continuing violence will lead to some desirable outcome. I tend to disagree.

This is a great example of the dangers of using ancient history and religion to justify modern political policy.

Just remember the end line of the National Brotherhood week song: and everybody hates …

    Glad you’ve posted again, Tad.

The civilian casualties are the part I find hardest to understand. It’s sad how the U.S. can just stand by approvingly.

But let’s also remember that these civilian casualties pale in comparison to, say, the tens of thousands who have died in Iraq since 2003.

Over 1000 civilians have been killed by the Israeli military in this most recent war. By contrast, 13 Israelis have been killed. 10 of those were soldiers. 6 of them died from friendly fire.

It’s an outrage that the world community stands by and does nothing but ask them to “please, stop”.
